Meet Your Yoga Instructor

Welcome to Gentle Balance Yoga! My name is Karen and I am so excited to be offering classes in our community! I live in southern Wisconsin with my husband Kevin and our sassy cat — who we just call “cat” because we just never landed on a name for him. I am a mom of three grown children and feel so fortunate to have them all living relatively close, and I love spending time with them. We are also blessed to have my mom living with us and helping her navigate through the challenges that her generation experiences.

I completed my 200 hour YMT in December of 2024 (Tribal Yoga School). Then I completed my certification for Yoga for Parkinson’s Disease in June of 2025 (with Theresa Conroy, C-IAYT, YACEP online).

I felt called to teach yoga to those with Parkinson’s Disease when attending a Parkinson’s Retreat during the summer of 2024. I attended this retreat with my husband Kevin, who was diagnosed with Young On-Set Parkinson’s Disease in 2021. Because movement is known to be the best “medicine” for PD, we did A LOT of it at this retreat. By the end of the long weekend, I felt a pull to get certified to help those living with PD in our community. When we returned from the retreat, I searched for a yoga school and set my sights on getting certified.

Although teaching yoga to those with PD has been my primary focus — I also offer Hatha, Vinyasa and Restorative Yoga classes to those not living with PD. This is a wonderful practice for care partners or anyone that needs a little self-care in their routine. Which I feel we ALL do!

I am so happy you have landed here on my website and are curious to learn more about practicing yoga! I look forward to seeing you in class.
